Effective January 1, 2026, Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife) and Naka Power Utilities (NWT) will be amalgamated under a single name: Naka Power Utilities (NWT). This change is part of our commitment to improving service, simplifying processes, and preparing for the future.
Naka Power Utilities (NWT) is owned by partnership between Denendeh Investments Incorporated (DII) and ATCO Ltd. For nearly 40 years, Naka Power Utilities (NWT) has been part owned by DII, representing 27 Dene First Nations across the Northwest Territories.

Bringing these two companies together simply makes sense. By unifying operations, we create a more efficient system for processes, resources, and decision-making. This streamlined approach means faster coordination across the Northwest Territories, one clear point of contact for customers, and standardized procedures that ensure consistent, reliable service.
What This Means for You
We’re committed to making this transition seamless for you. Your account number will stay the same and your electricity service will continue without any interruptions. At this time, your rates will remain unchanged, and rates will be reviewed in future proceedings with the NWT Public Utility Board.
Customer Action Item
For customers outside Yellowknife and N'Dilo who use online banking or have automatic payments, you will need update the payee information with your bank. To make sure your future payments go through smoothly, please take the following steps:
- Log in to your online banking.
- Go to your list of Payees.
- Delete the old payee named Naka Power Utilities (NWT).
- Search for the new payee with the same name: Naka Power Utilities (NWT).
- Add the new payee and re-enter your account number.
If these steps aren’t completed, your payments will not be processed, which could lead to late fees — and we definitely want to help you avoid that.
