About Us

Community Investment

We care about our communities

The Northwest Territories is an extraordinary place that approximately 42,000 people call home. Many consider it extraordinary due to its many official languages including (but not limited to): Chipewyan, Cree, Tłįchǫ, Gwich’in, North Slavey, South Slavey, Inuktitut, Inuvialuktun, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Some believe it is extraordinary because of the rich history.

Naka Power Utilities (NWT) and their over 40 employees think it is the people that we work with, socialize with and participate in community events with that make it extraordinary.

Every year, Naka Power Utilities (NWT) are presented with the opportunity to support many local charities, functions, events, galas and festivals. Our employees have been active and continue to be active in supporting many of the groups improving the communities of Yellowknife and N’Dilo as well as Enterprise, Hay River, Fort Providence, Sambaa K’e, Wekweeti, Dory Point and Kakisa.

Some recent initiatives we've supported include:

  • Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation
  • Folk on the Rocks
  • Snowking's Winter Festival
  • City of Yellowknife Christmas Lights Competition
  • Yellowknife International Air Show
  • Hay River Polar Pond Hockey
  • Enterprise Gateway Jamboree
  • ATCO EPIC

Supporting Energy Literacy in Indigenous Languages

Naka Power Utilities (NWT) is proud to help amplify the Arctic Energy Alliance’s initiative to make energy education more accessible across the Northwest Territories. Through workshops held in Yellowknife and Inuvik, Elders and translators collaborated to create Energy Wordbooks in Tłı̨chǫ and Gwich’in, translating key energy terms into Indigenous languages.

These resources help bridge language gaps in energy literacy, especially for Elders and community members who are more fluent in their traditional languages. By sharing this work, we’re supporting culturally relevant energy education. We encourage communities, educators, and energy professionals to explore and use them.
