  • A New Chapter in Community Connection: Introducing the NAKA Community District

Naka Power Utilities (NWT) is proud to announce a landmark partnership with the City of Yellowknife and ATCO Ltd., marking the official naming of the NAKA Community District and the ATCO Aquatic Centre. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building vibrant, inclusive spaces where residents of all ages can come together to learn, grow, and connect.

The newly named NAKA Community District brings together some of Yellowknife’s most cherished recreational facilities, including the brand-new ATCO Aquatic Centre, Community Arena, Curling Club, and outdoor tennis courts. These spaces serve as engines of community growth, offering opportunities for skill development, confidence building, and meaningful social connection.

For Naka Power Utilities (NWT), this partnership is a natural extension of its deep roots in the North. As a proud Dene-owned company with over 70 years of service in the Northwest Territories — and more than three decades powering Yellowknife — Naka Power Utilities (NWT) is committed to reinvesting in the communities it serves.

The ATCO Aquatic Centre, which anchors the district, is a symbol of ATCO’s enduring commitment to community development across its operating areas.

Together, these partnerships celebrate shared values of stewardship, inclusion, and long-term investment in community well-being. The NAKA Community District stands as a cornerstone of community life in Yellowknife — a place where residents are encouraged to dive in, try something new, and experience the energy and connection that make our city thrive.
